On a beautiful, sunny day Battery Park is where the youngsters take out their bikes and skateboards in order to practice new skills high up over the roofs of Cape Town. The skate and scooter park is the first skate park of this quality built within the city to world class skate park standards using lightweight construction.
Kids of all ages (well, those who can stand on a skateboard and scooter) can enjoy a bowl with spine and pump hump, quarter pipes, layback bank, gaps, a small plaza with hubba’s and rails, a frame set and a long ledge and rail. It was designed by California Skateparks in the USA with local input from local talent Marc Baker at CA Skateparks Africa.
The open park also features a decent basketball field and a big green lawn to play soccer or other fun games.
The park is built on top of a four-story parking building and you can either access it via Alfred Street or Dock Road. Access is 100% free.
While the kids are busy, the parents can sit down and relax on one of the many benches or wonder around the park through a series of pedestrian walks. You will be able to enjoy fabulous city, mountain and harbour views.
Our Experience
We often go there for a fun afternoon with our kids who can safely ride their bikes on the pedestrian walks and experience some fun on the smaller half pipes and the lawn. When it’s very busy on the track, you have to keep a close eye on the little ones so that they don’t get run over by the more experienced skaters. But other than that, it’s a fabulous place to also enjoy the spectacular views of the mountain and harbour.
