Let’s start this one with a fun fact: Bellevue’s vineyard produced the world’s first commercially bottled Pinotage. So why not go there and try some more of their award winning wines?
The wine estate is in the hands of the Morkel family who planted pinotage grapes at large scale at Bellevue as early as 1953 and hence played a big part in establishing Pinotage as South Africa’s signature grape variety.
Like most of the wine estates in this region, the facility features a restaurant as well as a tasting room and it’s up to you where you would like to fill up your bellies first. Take a sneak peak at their menu if you like: MENU
Tasting Specials
Here comes a great special: At the restaurant they offer very unique wine tasting options which you should definitely try while you’re there. They offer a Pizza & Wine Pairing (R130 per person) as well as a Burger Slider & Wine Pairing (R145 per person). With the Pizza and Wine Pairing you can expect 4 lovely Bellevue wines that are deliciously paired with their very distinctive pizza toppings. They also offer a lovely kiddies tasting that the children will definitely enjoy! They get to taste something sweet, salty and sour paired with yummy juices.
They also recently added a new eatery at the renovated Dutch Farm House. At Julies Creek you can expect panoramic mountain views, luscious green grass and a brand new big kiddies play area! It is being operated as a self-service restaurant with a menu consisting of delicious pizzas, burgers, platters and a lovely picnic menu. Just bear in mind that Julies Creek is only open from Saturday to Sunday 11:00 – 17:00 and it’s closed during the week.
While talking about play areas for the kids: you’ll find the original playground right in front of the restaurant and tasting area where the kids can swing around in big tree swings and explore the jungle gym which is conveniently shaded by big trees and providing cover on those hot summer days. There are also lush green lawns to run around and play hide and seek or other fun games. They kids will love it and they now can make a choice between two amazing play areas!
Our Experience
We haven’t tried the new eatery yet, but we’ve eaten a couple of times at the restaurant and took our seat right next to the shaded play area with the jungle gym and tree swings. It’s a perfect place for a hot Cape Town day as you’re seated right underneath big trees and get some cooler temperatures. The wine and pizza pairing is fantastic and rather rare. We also tried the burger pairing and can highly recommend it! It won’t fill you up for the day and you can easily eat something else on top. So if you’re super hungry, just get a second dish as well.
Our kids love their milkshakes the most. They are absolutely delicious.
