BOSJES – Stunning Family-Friendly destination in the Breede River Valley

Tucked away in the scenic Breede River Valley, about halfway between Worcester and Ceres, BOSJES is one of those places that makes you instantly slow down. With its beautiful gardens, striking chapel, mountain views, and laid-back atmosphere, it’s the kind of spot that invites you to wander, explore, and relax.

The estate has two main restaurants, each with its own vibe and menu, and together they make BOSJES a real treat for food lovers. Whether you’re after a long, lazy lunch with a view or a casual family breakfast surrounded by nature, here’s what you need to know about both.

BOSJES Kombuis – Farm-to-Fork Dining With a View

BOSJES Kombuis (which means “kitchen” in Afrikaans) is the estate’s flagship restaurant. The building itself is modern and airy, with floor-to-ceiling windows and an outdoor deck that overlooks vineyards and distant mountains. It’s the kind of place where you’ll want to linger over a glass of wine and a long lunch while soaking in the scenery.

The menu changes with the seasons, built around local produce and ingredients from the surrounding valley. Kombuis is ideal if you’re celebrating something special, planning a romantic lunch, or just want a proper sit-down meal that feels a little indulgent. The atmosphere is relaxed but elegant, and the service is warm and welcoming — much like everything else at BOSJES.

There is a fun play area for the kids with an amazing jungle gym and huge slide. So the kids can play while you enjoy your meal.

The Kombuis is open Monday to Sunday serving lunch from 11.30am to 4pm.
Bookings are essential. To make a reservation you can email feast@bosjes.co.za or call +27 23 004 0496.

BOSJES Spens – Casual, Family-Friendly and Full of Charm

BOSJES Spens is hidden under a planted green roof and surrounded by indigenous gardens. It has a completely different energy: casual, cozy, and ideal for families or anyone looking for a lighter meal.

This is the spot for breakfasts, brunches, and lazy lunches. The menu leans towards fresh and simple: think seasonal salads, open sandwiches, baked goods, and light meals made with local ingredients. It’s also a great place to stop for coffee and cake after exploring the estate.

The lawn outside is perfect for kids to run around, and the natural garden setting makes it feel more like a picnic spot than a restaurant. Spens is all about slowing down, enjoying the outdoors, and sharing good food without any rush.

A bit further up (sitting more or less on top of SPENS) is a wonderful water play area perfect for those hot summer days. The kids can splash around, dig in the sand, build sand castles and much more. A bit further up is also another amazing play area for bigger kids including a zip line, slide, swings and giant jungle gym. Most of the food that is served at Spens can be brought up to the play area which is also equipped with tables – so you can easily keep an eye on the little ones.

Spens is open Wednesday to Sunday serving breakfast from 8.30 – 11am, lunch from 11.30am to 3pm, and cakes and pastries from 8am to 4pm. Reservations are not necessary, but you can give them a call on +27 23 004 0496.
