Chilled Market at The Range / Tokai

The Chilled Market is scenically situated between Tokai Forest and the wine farms in the Constantia Valley. It’s 100% family-friendly and boasts magical vineyard and mountain views all around.

The food vendors and the live music is housed under a tent where you can also take a seat on colder days or simply if you want to enjoy the good vibes inside. Otherwise, grab a seat in the beautiful outside area where also all the kiddies entertainment takes place.

At the end of the market, you will find a huge jumping castle in front of another tent which is the dedicated kids zone. Inside, you will find more inflatables to jump on, a little craft station where you can draw, a ball pit and a sand art station. The little ones can also get their favourite slushies, some sweet treats and popcorn. A play session costs R30 per child, the parents need to leave their contact details with the child-minders and the little ones will receive a wristband with a number in case they are looking for their parents.

While the kids are busy, Mom and Dad (and other adults of course) can sit down, relax and enjoy a yummy dish from the selection of food vendors. You get anything from sushi, to Asian noodles, pizza, burgers, Dim Sum, Mexican, Ribs or Waffles.

At the bar, you find all kinds of cool drinks including craft beer, wine or gin. You can basically get anything you’re craving for – even hot drinks if you’re keen.

Dogs are also welcome, but should be kept on a leash. They must be kid-friendly and behave well. This is especially important when the market is visited by the neighbours in the wood next door. We often saw baboons invading the market looking for something to eat and even walking into the food tent. But don’t worry, there are rangers on site who take care of the baboons (in a most friendly way) and try to keep them away. So if you ever happen to see baboons at the market, don’t feed them or try to get close to them. They are wild animals!

Our Experience

We love this market on a Friday. Why? Because they have an absolutely amazing kiddies zone where they can play safely and supervised by childminders, they have a lovely jungle gym and playground, they have great food, good beer and wine, affordable and lovely crafts and delicious ice-cream and pancakes. So if that’s not the perfect venue as a family, then we don’t know what.

There is also great toy stand with cute little things for the kids that are super cheap. So we often give in and our children can pick something for the night. They also love the candy floss and of course, we cannot leave without an extensive play session at the kids zone.

The people are relaxed, it has awesome live music and simply great vibes. Sometime baboons are trying to steel some of the food inside the stretch tent which makes it even more entertaining and fun to be there. Of course, watch your kids and stay away from the baboons!
