🛠 What Is Red Bull Flugtag?
Red Bull Flugtag—literally “flight day” in German—is an international creative competition where teams design and build human-powered flying machines, launching them off a towering ramp into the harbour below. Teams are evaluated on flight distance, design originality, and showmanship, turning even failed flights into unforgettable theatrical moments.

- Location: V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa
- Teams: Up to 40 teams, each with up to four members, launching their crafts off a 25‑foot (≈7.62 m) platform

- Who can apply: Amateur creators aged 18+ from South Africa fueled by creativity and competitive spirit—no aviation experience required
- How to apply:
- Submit a sketch and concept online
- Wait for selection and receive a participation kit
- Build your flying machine and prepare your show
- Rules:
- No engines: purely human-powered
- Environmentally friendly materials only
- Maximum dimensions and weight limits enforced
- Machines must float and launch safely
Final judging scores include a mix of distance, design flair, and performance theatrics to crown the winners.
