Le Pommier Wine Estate / Stellenbosch

Fun fact: The French name “Le Pommier” is an homage to the farms history. The spot where you now find the restaurant, was once a flourishing apple orchard. Hence, Le Pommier means “The Apple”.

The wine farm is nestled amongst the vineyards at the foot of the Simonsberg and offers beautiful mountain views and a stunning scenery. On a sunny and warm day, you can take a seat at the generous outside area which also features a play area for the little ones.

On cooler days, you can grab a table inside with a cozy open fire place and a rustic interior. The traditional Cape cuisine offers dishes for everyone. The extensive a la carte menu features Classic Escargot, bowls, risotto, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, meat & fish and sweet treats. They also have a kiddies menu with great and affordable choices for the little ones. You can find a sneak-peak of their menu on their website: MENU

They don’t do separate wine tastings, but you can try their award-winning wines by the glass or get a whole bottle for the table. They are really delicious and we tried them all: white, rose and reds. We honestly liked them all and can highly recommend the place for a day out with family and friends.

The playground is located right next to the parking area and the outside tables, so that you can watch the children play during your stay. You just need to keep an eye on the little ones that they don’t escape among the parked cars.

The play area features a jungle gym, multiple swings, slides and a toddler play station. Since it’s all built on sand, you can even bring along your sand toys and they can play in the large sandpit.

As a special highlight, Le Pommier offers two different kiddies tastings where the children can either do a milkshake and sweet treat pairing or a more hearty juice and mini pizza pairing. Both look absolutely fabulous and the little ones will definitely enjoy this fabulous treat.

Our Experience

We booked a table inside for our kids birthday party (both were born in August). So it was too chilly to sit outside, but our guests and us enjoyed it non the less. We ordered a cheese platter as a starter for the table which was hugely appreciated by our friends and it was affordable, too. We all ordered something else for lunch and everything was absolutely delicious. The kids got their meals first, so that the parents could eat in peace afterwards. We tried all their wines and a bottle of bubbly. All in all, it was a very successful birthday party with our friends in a great environment and super friendly staff. The kids could run around outside and make use of the play area while the adults enjoyed the cozy warm atmosphere inside.

The only little downside: the estate is right next to a big road and the playground is just in front of the parking area. So you always have to keep an eye on younger children and cannot let them play by themselves.
