Little Stream Tea Garden / Constantia

Little Stream is probably one of Cape Town’s best-kept secrets. The venue is situated on beautiful 7 acres of garden estate at the foothills of Constantia and has been nicknamed a mini Kirstenbosch garden with its picturesque garden, tranquil and magical forest setting and little stream running through the grounds!

It is a perfect place to escape the hectic city life and take the family out to a quiet space with many things to discover. Just be aware that the garden can only be accessed by paying patrons. So you either can grab a bite from their fabulous farmhouse deli or you sit down for an artisan-style menu at the Tea Garden Cafe. As a third option, you can also book a picnic platter in advance and enjoy a delicious picnic menu for two. You’ll have the choice to be seated at a table for two in a secret private rendezvous spot in the garden or opt in to bring your own blanket and cushions and laze on the lawns. It’s up to you!

Picnic Platter for Two

The big green lawns are very inviting to come and sit down for a lovely picnic in nature. While the kids can run around and explore the little hidden gems in the garden, you can enjoy a fantastic picnic platter for two or you make it a romantic get-away without the kids and munch the yummy stuff away at a secret rendezvous table. All picnics must be booked at least 3 days in advance and cost R450 per couple.

You check in at the Deli and will be greeted with a non-alcoholic sparkling drink. After that, the Little Stream team will accompany guests with their food platter to the picnic spot. Alcohol is strictly not permitted since the place is not licensed. However, they have a good selection of non alcohol wines or drinks available which can be ordered from the Deli as an optional extra. Here you can take a sneak-peak at the Picnic Menu: PICNIC PLATTER

Opening times for picnics: Tuesday to Saturday 10:30am to 15:45, Sunday 10:00 – 15:00.

The Tea Garden Cafe

The restaurant offers an inside and outside seating area for its guests and features down to earth homely food. Breakfast is served until 11:45 and you can start your day with freshly pressed espresso coffee with a warm crispy croissant, or cream scones with homemade berry jam and Earl Grey tea! For the real hungry ones, they also serve salads, pasta, pizzas and burgers as well as a kiddies menu! They also have a few vegetarian and vegan options available. You can check out their full menu here: MENU

The Garden

The garden is not only interesting for the kids, but even the grown-ups can explore and discover hidden gems everywhere. When you make your way down to the lawn area, you come across a giant tree swing, a “sleeping beauty”, you cross the stream over a cute wooden bridge and arrive at the lawns. There, you’ll find other “creatures” that live there and can explore the huge bambus forests, a playground and much more! It really feels like entering a fairy tale garden and the kids will absolutely love it. You just need to keep an eye on the little ones at all times because of the stream and wide open spaces, they might get lost (or scared) when coming across some of the monsters. The play area is also out of sight of the restaurant and you cannot watch the children play.

The Deli

You enter the garden and restaurant through the Deli which offers a selection of freshly baked bread, cakes and pastries, croissants and many other delicious treats. They also serve hot drinks, cool drinks and juice. The shelves are filled with fresh fruits and other artisanal food options. If you like to shop around for fresh and local products, you will definitely find something. They also offer ice cream and cookies for the little ones to enjoy in the generous outside garden.

Our Experience

We absolutely love this place and were surprised by the wide, open space and how far it actually stretches. There is so much to discover that it is a lot of fun for the kids to walk around and find new creatures around the garden. We sat down for lunch at the Tea Garden Cafe and really enjoyed the calm environment and greenery not far from the city. The only small downside is the fact, that the playground is out of sight and we didn’t want them to go down to the lawns all by themselves. There is the stream and you’ll never know what little children are up to. For older children, this will be the perfect spot to roam around without the parents in sight. It’s like a big adventure garden.

  1. Hi there

Do you allow little kids birthday parties? I would like to have a little party for my 2 year old daughter on 8 July. Would that be possible – prob 15 people?
