This open field in the heart of Noordhoek is perfect for a family outing. Kids can run around, dogs can play, and parents can relax while taking in the fresh air and mountain views. But if you take a closer look, you might spot something special near the trees…
Tiny Doors and Big Imagination
Scattered around the Common, you’ll find miniature fairy houses tucked into tree trunks. Some have tiny red doors, others have tiny windows, and a few even come with miniature swings, mushrooms, and signs. It feels like something out of a storybook. Nobody really knows who started building them, but one thing’s for sure—they bring smiles to anyone who spots them.
A Peaceful Community Space
Even without the fairy houses, Noordhoek Common is a beautiful spot. You’ll often see people walking dogs, flying kites, or having a picnic. Horses graze nearby, and the open space makes it perfect for a relaxed day out. There are many different kind of swings scattered around the park for the little ones to enjoy – high rope swings, magical horse swings, large tree swings – you name it. Some are in plain sight, others are a bit more hidden among the trees and walk-ways. It’s fun to run around and find them all – just like the fairy houses.
You can also watch some quirky squirrels running around the grass and in the trees that add to the amusement.

On Friday late afternoon evening I found the most amazing pianist playing under a tree out in the open. Beautiful music wafting through this magical place was almost unbelievable, but there he was! I would encourage any and everyone to experience this encounter with James who plays and shares with us all his gift and magic on the piano keyboard. Truly a blessing , the Common and James 🙏
