Mariella’s Restaurant @Capaia Wine Estate / Cape Farms

On your way to Capaia, the GPS will send you on a final left turn onto the dirt road. If you’re wondering at this stage if you’re still on the right track, keep going! Capaia is slightly hidden, but well worth a visit with the entire family and friends. Once you reach the gate, you will enter an oasis of green lawns, chill out places everywhere, fabulous and creative play areas for the kids and a lovely deck at Mariella’s Restaurant where you can wine and dine while enjoying spectacular views.

The wine cellar is open during the week from Monday til Friday and you can book a 30 minute cellar tour to learn interesting insights, information and the history of Capaia. The Cellar Tour is R30 per person and free for kids under the age of 18. Afterwards, you can enjoy a lovely tasting experience and taste a selection of their wines for R50 per person.

Important: Cellar tours & tastings by appointment only!

Alternatively, you can also enjoy their wine at Mariella’s Restaurant along with delicious platters or hot dishes. They also offer a kiddies menu for the little ones. Take a look at their menu here: MENU

While the adults relax on the deck overlooking the hills of the Swartland, the children can play on the lawn and jungle gym while you sit back and unwind on the deck.

The estate features two separate play areas: one for older kids with a jungle gym, swings, climb wall and trampoline. It’s a bit further away and not directly in sight of the seating area. The little ones can stay at the smaller playground right in front of the restaurant which consists of a tiny jungle gym and little see-saw. It’s still a lot of fun for the kids and they can make use of all the space and run around on the green lawns. The kids will absolutely love it there.

Our Experience

This is a truly special place completely hidden in the Farm Land and behind a long-winding dirt road. As a tourist, I would have probably turned around before we got there, but it’s absolutely worth staying on the road for this little gem. The kids love the different play areas, the trampoline and most of all, the large and safe space to run around.

The lawns are inviting to sit down, relax and enjoy some of the house wine or have lunch at the beautiful deck of Mariella’s Restaurant. We love it just as much as the kids. Just don’t be late on a Sunday afternoon as the kitchen already closes at 3pm. So you cannot rock up for a late lunch and it’s advisable to make a booking to secure yourself a spot at one of their limited tables.

Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
