Meerendal is a lovely, family-owned wine estate with a lot on offer. You can grab freshly baked goods from their farm stall, enjoy a wine tasting, grab a meal at one of the two restaurants (Bossa Winelands or 1702 Heritage Kitchen) or go on an adventurous hike or mountain biking trail.
While enjoying a delicious meal at your favourite restaurant, your kids will be covered. The new playground is situated right in between both restaurants so that you can watch them play from anywhere you’re seated.
The playground is equipped with a huge jungle gym with slides, monkey bars, a massive sandpit and space to explore. For those children into ball games, they can run wild and free on the huge lawn area and enjoy the wide open space.
Bossa Winelands & The Wine Cellar
When visiting Meerendal, you’ve got to make a choice between two restaurants on the estate. Both are equally close located to the amazing play area and you can watch the kids play from the respective outside seating areas. So it really depends on your taste of the day which one you will choose for a delicious meal.
Bossa
If you are looking for a more casual dining experience with a lively ambiance, friendly service and a menu aimed at catering for almost every palate and occasion, then Bossa Winelands is your place to go. You will find anything from nachos and chilli poppers to crunchy salads, burgers, seafood, woodfired pizzas, 35-day dry-aged prime cuts and more on their menu. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner between 07:00 – 22:00 on all seven days of the week!

They also offer a huge kiddies menu with the usual kid’s favourites including delicious waffle dessert and milkshakes.
The Wine Cellar
For a tasting experience, make your way to the Wine Cellar on the estate. While you taste your way through their wine offerings, the little ones can join in on the fun by getting their very own kiddies tasting consisting of two different drinks and a choice of three sweet treats. The Kiddies Tasting is available at R65 per child.
Running, Hiking & MTB
The trails at Meerendal are available Tuesdays to Sundays year round and open their gates at sunrise until 18:00 in winter and 18:30 in summer. On their mountain biking trails, with a route made up of inter-leading 5 km, 10.5 km and 17.8 km trails, you can expect 1-2 hours of riding depending on your ability. The routes accommodate beginners who are still learning the ropes, as well as experienced riders keen for a challenge.
The hiking trails (5km, 7km or 9km) lead through the vineyards on Meerendal, offering spectacular views along the way.
Our Experience
The restaurant has a massive lawn area overlooking the dam and vineyards in the distance. The play area is conveniently situated right next to the outside dining area and you can enjoy your meal while the kids are playing right next to you. It’s a great estate with lots of space and kid friendly entertainment options. We ate at Bossa and enjoyed our meals in this vibrant and trendy atmosphere.

We visited this week. The playground is different to this – more sand, no trampoline, and the components a little different and in different positions but still good! Toddler loved the ducks too. Kids tasting in wine room was very enjoyed. La Romatica is closed however. Bossa was good and had a kids menu, small indoor area too and booth seating.
