Hazendal Wine Estate is a fantastic place for the whole family as it caters for young and old and literally everyone will find something fun to do! The lush green lawns, open air spaces, play areas and dining options are very inviting and you simply have to pick where you gonna start first. The little ones can play a round of Minigolf, dive into an exciting world of science at Wonderdal or simply play at the many open play areas around the Estate.

The area of the Estate is huge and you can actually enter from two different entrance points. From the parking lot, you can then either make your way to the Golf Course (there is also the putting park for the little ones) or head straight towards the old Farmhouse buildings that surround the beautiful garden.

On your way down, you come across the Classic Oldtimer Collection and it’s fun to stop by and admire the beautiful cars from another time. Especially our son doesn’t want to come out and he has so many questions, that we barely have time to answer them all.

On the left hand side, you’ll find Wonderdal. An entire building dedicated for children aged 5 to 13 years. More detailed information about Wonderdal will follow below.

While the kids are being busy, you will have to make a choice of where and what to eat. There are plenty of options and experiences available and you can easily spend a few hours at Hazendal without getting bored.

Wonderdal

Wonderdal is a dedicated edutainment space for children from the age of 5 to 13 years. The place is fully supervised and curriculum aligned where the kids can experience a journey through the worlds of science, nutrition and nature. Learning through play is fun and entertaining and the many specific learning zones make it easy and interesting to follow along. The building is packed with interactive games, immersive experiences and outdoor adventure.

Kids usually go through the experience all by themselves with the help of fully trained staff referred to as WonderPals. For a fully 2-hour supervised session you will have to pay R125 on a low day (Tue-Thu) or R190 on a peak day (Fri-Sun). They only allow children in with their special safety socks – normal socks or other grip socks are not allowed. The safety socks cost an additional R40 per pair.

Kleine Hazen Putting Park

The putting park is especially designed for kids, so the brand new course is easy to manage for kids of all ages and they will have lots of fun trying to master the 18 holes! It’s fun to discover “Kleine Hazen” along the track and for those who are getting bored along the way, a massive jungle gym and play area is waiting right next to the entrance. So kids can play, have a little competition going on and simply enjoy themselves along with the parents.

• No-players entrance fee = R30

Babushka Deli & Picnics

When you visit Hazendal, you should sit down and grab a bite from their Babushka Deli. They offer an all-day breakfast, lunch, snacking boards, salads as well as a kiddies menu and dessert. So you will surely find something delicious to munch on while the kids are playing and you’ve got time to enjoy the beautiful garden.

Alternatively, you can also book a whole picnic experience for you and the family. Babushka Picnic baskets come filled with delicious delicacies, from artisan breads with hummus and selection of cold meats. Special menus for children and vegetarians ensure all tastes are catered for. Picnic menus are seasonal and subject to change.

The booking for picnic baskets is essential and a full pre-payment is required to confirm your booking. The picnics are offered Tuesday to Sunday at 10:00 or 13:00 and are packed for 2 guests per basket. The picnics cost R350 per adult and R175 per child. So a picnic basket for 2 would cost R700 in total.

Food Truck & Beer Garden

If you prefer to roam around the Estate and admire the beautiful hidden places or simply take a seat on the lawn, you can grab a small bite from the food truck that is located right across the Wonderdal entrance. You’ll get flavour-packed food such as pulled-pork bao with an umami-rich glaze and Asian slaw, or the famous black sourdough pita generously filled with fresh falafel and salad.

Alternatively, you can also enjoy the Russian and South African beer garden fusion. Among draught beer you’ll find wood-fired pizzas or a hearty German sausage platter. Since this is a family-friendly place, they also offer a dedicated kids’ menu for young diners.

Kiddies Birthday Parties

If you’re planning a spectacular birthday party for kids between 6 and 12 years old, you can book a 2 hour play session at Wonderdal. Their party package pricing ranges from R295 and R430 per child and you will need a minimum of 5 party guests.

Available party slots are from 10:00 – 12:30 and 14:00 – 16:30.
