When you use the Spur Restaurant Locator on their website, you will find that there are 43 Spur Restaurants in Cape Town alone! So this is a massive and successful restaurant chain all over South Africa and you surely find a Spur near you.
The Mexico Spur at Canal Walk is conveniently located at the top floor of the Food Court with its own bathroom facilities and wheelchair friendly entrance. We were greeted by friendly staff and directed to a table close to the play area.
The play area is suitable for younger children but also a lot of fun for teenagers due to the impressive equipment. While the little ones can enjoy a soft play jungle gym with climbing facilities and a slide, the older children can play air hockey, basketball or a selection of child-friendly video games.
Kids who prefer to stay with their parents at the table will be able to ask for some crayons and colouring paper for their entertainment. So the kids are busy while the adults have a difficult choice to make in terms of the food. The menu is quite extensive and you will find anything from steaks, burgers, salads, toasties, seafood, combos and sweet treats. They do offer a large kiddies menu as well and there is simply something for everyone on the menu.
They also have a kids’ special where you get a Spur beef or chicken burger, soda, and lucky packet filled with chips, sweets, and an awesome Spur activity for only R84.90!

We generally don’t like to eat in a shopping mall, so we are slightly biased about the review of this Spur restaurant. The food was ok and the kids enjoyed the play area, but we personally don’t like crowded places too much and the restaurant was very full (which is normally a good sign). The staff was very helpful and friendly and gave us a table close to the play area which we found very thoughtful. We also got crayons and paper and the kids were busy the whole time.
For us, it was a bit too loud, too close to the next table and too busy in general. We were waiting about 40 minutes for the food to arrive and we certainly had much better food in other restaurants in Cape Town. So overall (for us) it was more of a disappointing experience, but the kids truly enjoyed it. I didn’t know about the Spur Family Card, so it’s probably worth signing up for it if you go there on a regular basis.
