Our Take
If you want to taste authentic Italian ice cream served out of so-called “pozzetti”, you have to visit Moro Gelato at one of their ice cream parlours in town. They have opened up shops in Green Point, Sea Point, the CBD and Stellenbosch and they offer THE BEST FLAVOURS you can possibly imagine.
They make their gelato from scratch every week, which means they have different flavours in the shops all the time and it’s often seasonal, so it’s kind of a surprise what flavours you’ll get on your day of visit. But you can take a little sneak-peak of all their flavours on the website: GELATO FLAVOURS
You will have the choice between “Sorbetto” or milk gelato and some really unusual ingredients. From the “normal” chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavours, they also do things like Turmeric Ginger Lemon, Halva, Gingerbeet, Fig Sorbet, Mandarino and many many more! By the way, all their gelato use 100% natural ingredients with no preservatives, colourants or hydrogenated fats.
For those of you who want to enjoy the gelato conveniently at home, they made a plan, too! You can simply buy gelato boxes – for you, for the family or party guests. You can choose from a 500ml Couch Box (R209) or a 1L Couch Box (R372) or 4 diverse Party Boxes.

The shops are super small and very easy to walk by if you don’t know what you’re looking for. But once you made it in there, you never want to go out again. The ice-cream is served out of pots and the flavours are just too good to be true. It’s really hard to make a choice in the first place because I always want to try so many flavours that it’s impossible to squeeze them into one cup. For me, this is the best ice cream in town. It doesn’t get better than that.
