The name of the market might be confusing to some as you would probably expect, that the market is located in the suburb of Oranjezicht. This was actually the case when it all started in 2012 as an educational non-profit project in Cape Town.

Back then it was a well-known food garden at the slopes of Table Mountain famous for celebrating local food, culture and community through urban agriculture.

Three years later, in 2015, the market was relocated to its new location at the Granger Bay section of the V&A Waterfront but kept its original name as the move was only planned for the wet winter months. However, the market is now permanently established at the Waterfront and provides much bigger grounds for the growing amount of local farmers and its weekly visitors.

With plenty of outside seating space under huge stretch tents, that provide shade in summer, you can enjoy relaxed vibes, good music and food as well as fabulous ocean views. The market offers freshly produced goods from freshly squeezed juices, pastry, bread and fungi, vegetarian and vegan dishes, vegan ice-cream, burgers, pizza, meat… Surely anyone will find something to their liking and you can simply enjoy a great market atmosphere.

Toilets are on site and in case you need some cash, you’ll also find an ATM at the market.

All people from young and old, joggers, cyclists, dog-walkers and families are welcome and invited to join the market either during the day on weekends or attend the special Wednesday Night Market from 5pm to 9pm.

Doggies are welcome as long as they are friendly with kids and other dogs and you clean up after them. They must also be kept on a leash and cannot roam around freely.

Kids can run around, relax on the chill out areas and enjoy the fresh air and good vibes. There is no dedicated kiddies area or playground, but kids usually still love it and gladly accompany their parents.

Depending on when you get there, parking can be a bit tricky. Although there are quite a few parking spots along the road, they are quickly taken and you can use the underground parking space of the V&A Waterfront as an alternative. The prices are fairly cheap and start at R10 for up to 2 hours.
