Ristorante Pappa Grappa at the original Wilderer Distillery Estate offers a warm, family-friendly Winelands dining experience along the R45. Surrounded by lush shaded gardens, kids can enjoy the massive jungle gym and zip line while parents indulge in hearty German-Italian dishes and award-winning spirits.
Our Take
If you love Gin and great food, then the Pappa Grappa Restaurant and Wilderer Distillery is a fantastic place to spend some time with the family. They have a lovely outside seating area with big trees that offer shade in summer and a huge play area for the kids right next to it. So while you can enjoy your drinks and meals in a stunning surrounding, the kids are not far off playing on the zip line or jungle gym.
The restaurant has some delicious food options which have a strong German influence. So if you are keen to try some Schnitzel, Jägerspätzle or Apfelstrudel, you won’t be disappointed! They also have a great pizza, pasta and meat menu and of course some kiddies options as well.
As it’s usually quite busy whenever we went there, we highly recommend to make a booking in advance if you truly want to experience the restaurant and grab a nice table in the outside seating area. You can either make a booking on their website or give them a quick call.
Dogs are welcome, too, but make sure to keep them on a leash during your stay.

Since we’re German, we love the German food treats once in a while and really enjoy the Spaetzle and Apfelstrudel there. The kids love it, too! They are usually playing hide and seek or can be found on the jungle gym. Last time we went there was a slight disappointment as the zip line was broken, but hopefully this will be fixed very soon so that they can experience the full fun of the playground next time.
