Profile
Explore the wonders of space at the Iziko Planetarium in Cape Town. With immersive shows and fascinating astronomy experiences, it’s a fun and educational outing for curious kids, budding astronomers and the whole family.
Our Take
The Cape Town Planetarium and Digital Dome is housed in the South African Iziko Museum building in the heart of the city centre. It is the most advanced digital planetarium on the African continent. It is not only used for edutainment purposes but also serves actual scientific research to optimize South Africa’s eResearch and data visualization capacity.
But the fun happens from Tuesday to Sunday when the Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome is open to the public and makes virtual voyages of the universe possible. In various shows kids of all ages can get an unparalleled experience of animation and 360◦ cinema.
There are different shows to choose from with a selection of morning shows and afternoon shows that are astronomical adventures for space and science enthusiasts.

This is a very unique experience for the kids and an absolutely amazing way to explore and learn about our universe. Our son even went there with his class on a school outing and he absolutely loved it. It’s low budget too and definitely worth a visit.
