Playrock in Paarl added an adventurous feature to their play park — now you can also visit Playrock Xtreme, an outdoor adventure extension right behind the original park that’s built specifically for older kids, teens, and adults who want their fun to come with a bit more adrenaline. We’re talking quad bikes, paintball, gel blaster wars, bubble soccer, and target shooting — all in one venue, under the Paarl mountains, with fresh air and probably a few war cries.
The best part? You can park once and access both Playrock and Playrock Xtreme on the same visit. So the little ones get their bounce castle fix while the bigger kids go full commando. Everyone wins. Even the parents, who can sneak off to LEKR by Back’s (the on-site restaurant) for a well-deserved moment of peace.
Here’s a full breakdown of what’s on offer.
Quad Biking
There are two ways to experience the quads at Playrock Xtreme. The first is the guided tour — a roughly 7km route through the scenic Paarl Winelands that takes 30 to 40 minutes and winds through dirt paths, gentle slopes, and open terrain with mountain views that honestly make the whole thing feel a bit cinematic. This one is for confident riders aged 12 and up.
The second option is the on-site lap track, where younger riders (with an adult) can experience the thrill of quad biking in a more controlled environment. Quads are available for different ages and sizes, and every session starts with a safety briefing and handling tutorial. Helmets and protective gear are included.
Pricing:
- Guided tour: R550 per person
- Child ride-along (with adult): R850 per session
- Group packages (10+ riders): custom pricing on request
Minimum age: 12 years to ride solo; younger children can ride along with an adult.
Paintball
Nothing brings a group together quite like getting pelted with paint-filled pellets and having to pretend you’re absolutely fine. Playrock Xtreme’s paintball arena hosts team battles across multiple game formats — team battle, capture the flag, elimination, and king-of-the-hill — over sessions of around 90 minutes.
Equipment is all provided: Tippmann Stormer markers (proper kit, not toy guns), masks, overalls, and your starter paint. Sessions are supervised by trained marshals who keep it safe and keep it moving.
Pricing:
- R290 per person – includes 100 paintballs
- R380 per person – includes 200 paintballs
- Top-ups: R100 per additional 100 paintballs
- Groups smaller than 10 players: R2,900 flat with 1,000 paintballs to share
Minimum age: 12 years (recommended); younger players can join with parental consent.
Gel & Nerf Blaster Wars
This is the one for the kids who aren’t quite ready for paintball — and honestly, for the adults who don’t want bruises at a birthday party. Gel and Nerf blaster wars offer all the team-battle excitement with significantly less sting.
There are two formats on offer. Foam/Nerf dart blasters are ideal for the younger crowd (ages 4–7), while gel/orbie blasters cater to kids from about 7 upwards, with junior manual blasters for the 7–10 age group and senior semi-automatic blasters for kids 11 and up and adults. Sessions last around 90 minutes with multiple rounds, and all gear — blasters, ammo, safety goggles, team buffs, and flags — is included.
Pricing:
- Foam/Nerf Dart session: R210 per player
- Gel/Orbie Blaster – Junior: R240 per player
- Gel/Orbie Blaster – Senior: R280 per player
Minimum age: 4 years (Foam/Nerf); 7 years (Gel Blasters).
Target Shooting
A bit slower-paced but no less satisfying, target shooting is for the kid (or adult) who wants to actually work on their aim. Using Tippmann Stormer paintball markers or gel blasters, players take on a range of targets: static plates, character cut-outs, mannequins, pop-ups, and even objects that shatter on impact. Sessions are unlimited in time, and staff will give tips on stance, breathing, and technique — which feels fancy until you realise you’ve been holding the blaster like a TV remote.
Pricing:
- Paintball target shooting: R140 per person (includes 50 balls)
- Gel blaster target shooting: R120 per person (includes 1 hopper)
Minimum age: 7 years.
Bubble Soccer
This one is hard to describe with a straight face, because there is nothing dignified about bubble soccer and that is entirely the point. Players strap themselves into giant inflatable zorb bubbles — arms inside, legs out — and then attempt to play football while also bouncing off each other like giant human pinballs. It’s chaotic, it’s hilarious, and it’s surprisingly great exercise.
Bubble soccer is booked as an exclusive session for your group, with packages based on player numbers.
Pricing:
- 1 hour (up to 8 players): R2,200
- 1.5 hours (up to 16 players): R2,900
- 2 hours (up to 24 players): R3,500
- Half-day (corporate or school event): R5,900
Minimum age: 6 years; minimum height 1.2m for the bubble to fit properly.
Coming Soon
The team has a few more activities in the pipeline: a Rainbow Slide, Laser Clay Shooting, Bungee Trampolines, and an Obstacle Course. These are all listed as “coming soon” on the site, so watch this space.
Booking ahead is strongly recommended, especially on weekends and during school holidays. Walk-ins are welcome if space allows, but nobody wants to drive to Paarl only to find the quad bikes are fully booked.
Closed shoes are required for all activities, and a signed indemnity form is needed for every player (with guardian consent for minors).
