Ratanga Park is a green oasis in the heart of Century City where you can relax, unwind and breathe in some fresh air after a hectic day. It’s a great place to have a picnic with the family, let the kids run free and play.

Alternatively, the park also offers a variety of land and water-based outdoor exercise options in beautiful landscapes, as well as the enhancement of rich bird-life and indigenous vegetation.

What was formerly known as Cape Town’s amusement park Ratanga Junction, has now been transformed into a beautiful public space that is open to anyone for free. You’ll find two bridges crossing the canal, open lawn space and a big picture frame for taking home some memories. There is also a kiddies play area with a jungle gym, a slide, swings and lots of space to explore.

The green lawns are very inviting to have family picnics or enjoy some ball games. The park is surrounded by apartment buildings as well as coffee shops and restaurants for your convenience.

Of course, the park is not only popular with families and kids, but also runners and dog-walkers. They enjoy the wide open space just as much and soak in the green scenery and lush surroundings. Ratanga Park has a similar feel to the Green Point Park in Cape Town and is a great success among locals and visitors alike.

Century City Tramway

As a new highlight (tram opened in 2023 and is designed in a 1920’s look), you and the kids can now also hop on the Century City Tramway which takes you on a 20 minute ride around Century City on the old Rantanga Junction Railway line.

You get to see the canal, drive by some coffee shops, get a peak at the park, go through a small subway station and ride along Canal Walk Shopping Center.

The ticket price is R70 per person and a fun experience for the little ones. The tram leaves right at the entrance of the park (see map below). You can pay in cash or via card payment.

Due to the price it’s probably a once-off thing to do, but still lots of fun for the entire family. Afterwards, you can go for a walk at Ratanga Park and let the kids run free at the playground right next to the station.
