Profile
Enjoy a refreshing swim at the iconic St James Tidal Pool, a family-friendly spot on the False Bay coast. With its sheltered pool and beautiful ocean views, it’s a Cape Town classic for a day by the sea.
Our Take
It’s a family favourite because of its generally warm and shallow water. This makes it the perfect spot for kids of all ages to play and splash around and have some safe fun in the water. It has also a wind-sheltered, family-friendly beach where the kids can play with their sand-toys while the parents soak in the view.
The tidal pool is located off Main Road and it’s about 1 022 square metres big. It has relatively low walls which means you get new and fresh water in all the time and you can enjoy the beautiful mountain views, too!
However, there are also the train tracks running right behind it and you need to keep an eye on the younger kids. You’ll find the entrance to the undercover passage right next to the Folk Cafe which directly leads to the tidal pool from the Main Road.
You’ll also find an outdoor shower and a changing room close-by which makes it the perfect place for a short swim stop-over and dip in the refreshing water.
