If you want to experience the wine lands in a fun and entertaining way for the entire family, you must try the new Wine Tractor Experience in Stellenbosch! The Wine Tractor Experience offers visitors a delightful journey through some of Stellenbosch’s finest vineyards aboard an open-air tractor. Each tractor can carry up to 30 wine enthusiasts who will enjoy this novel way of exploring some of the finest wine farms in the area.

Wine Farms on the Wine Tractor Route

Stellenbosch is only a short 30 minute drive from Cape Town and yet you can admire panoramic views of some lush vineyards set against the backdrop of majestic mountains. The Wine Tractor takes you to multiple boutique wineries in a single day. Each winery has its own unique charm and character, offering a diverse range of wines to tantalise your palate. From crisp Sauvignon Blancs to robust Cabernet Sauvignons, there’s something to suit every taste preference. Travelling on the Wine Tractor is easy: you can check all the different wine farms on the route in advance, find out about their unique tasting options and make up your mind where you would like to get on or off.

Currently, the Wine Tractor covers 9 selected wine farms where you can either stay for an hour before you move on or you enjoy the moment even longer and simply hop on the next Wine Tractor whenever it suits you. What sets the Wine Tractor Experience apart is its intimate and immersive nature. Unlike traditional wine tours, where visitors are often shuttled between wineries in large groups, the Wine Tractor Experience allows for a more personalised and authentic encounter with the winemakers and vineyard owners. You’ll have the chance to engage in insightful conversations, learn about the winemaking process firsthand, and gain a deeper appreciation for the artistry and craftsmanship behind each bottle of wine.

An experience for the entire family

This is not only great fun for adults, but children will enjoy the Wine Tractor rides just as much as you do! The tractor rides are 100% family-friendly and children of all ages are more than welcome on board! The kids will love the cruise along the off-track routes between the different vineyards and it’s great fun to see the grapes close up and meet and greet some cows along the way. Many wine farms on the Wine Tractor Route are family-friendly, too, and offer quite a few opportunities for the little ones to take some fun breaks in between.

At the Ticket Sale Office at Root44, you can also grab a bite to eat and get ready for the day with some delicious coffee. The kids can enjoy a complementary baby chino with your order and will love the special treatment! At Avontuur Wine Estate, we tasted some yummy gin and the kids were super delighted to get their very own drink amongst the adults (without the alcohol of course).

How it works

The earliest Wine Tractor leaves from the Ticket Sale Office located at Root44 around 9:30 in the morning and you can choose from different time slots every day. It is recommend to arrive around 30 minutes earlier before your scheduled time of departure. While you settle in and arrive at the ticket office, you can already start your day with some delicious coffee and treats from the cafe inside or you give it a kick-start and have your first wine tasting experience right then and there.

Once you’re onboard the Wine Tractor, you can simply sit back and relax and let the experienced team take you through the vineyards. In between the different wine farms, you can sit down at a restaurant or simply enjoy a tasting while the next Wine Tractor is on its way to pick you up and take you to the next stop. Whether you would like to experience as many wine farms in one day as possible or rather take your time where you enjoy it most: it’s 100% up to you! The last Wine Tractor will head back to the main office around 18:00.

Ticket prices are R300 for adults and R150 for children between 2 and 17 years. Kids under the age of 2 will travel for FREE on the Wine Tractor.
