Vergelegen Wine Estate in Somerset West is a beautiful historic estate with stunning gardens, vineyards and mountain views. Families can explore the grounds, enjoy a meal and spend a relaxing day surrounded by nature.
Our Take
If you enjoy sheer beauty and the tranquility of nature, you will absolutely love Vergelegen Wine Estate. Before you can enter this amazing Estate, you will have to pay a small entrance fee of R10 per person and then indulge in wonderful gardens, plants and flowers. The venue is huge and absolutely well maintained, so no matter where you go, you will find something beautiful.
The Estate comprises of 17 different gardens, two restaurants and the wine cellar. The historic gardens are truly wonderful and all so different that it’s so much fun to explore them. Just to name a few of them, you can roam around in the Rose Garden, Bamboo Garden, the Octagonal Garden, the Camellia Garden of Excellence, Wetlands Garden, Fynbos Garden, Maple Garden… Take a look of what you can discover during your visit: VERGELEGEN GARDENS
If you would like to take a break in between, you’ll have the choice between the Stables Restaurant and Cafe Fleur. Both establishments serve amazing dishes, but for families we would always recommend Stables Restaurant with the near by playground for the kids.
The playground is equipped with a shaded seating area for the adult, two jungle gyms, slides, carousels, swings and a little bike track. The green lawns are very inviting, too, and the children can run around, play hide and seek or enjoy their own little ball games.
Stables Restaurant
Stables Restaurant has a beautiful garden setting and spectacular mountain views where you can pick an outside table overlooking the Estate. It’s a bistro-style establishment and very family-friendly as there is plenty of space for the little ones to explore the garden and the fantastic playground is just a stone-throw away. So the kids can go play while you enjoy your breakfast or lunch.
Although they don’t offer a separate kiddies menu, you surely find something to your taste. The menu offers anything from salads, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas…
Cafe Fleur
Cafe Fleur offers a more sophisticated dining experience with a French style cuisine and a higher priced menu. The dishes are absolutely exquisite

We absolutely love Vergelegen as there is so much to discover that it doesn’t get boring for the kids. We love to sit down at the Stables Restaurant and the kids can run off all by themselves to enjoy the playground. We normally take along the bikes as well so that they can enjoy the little bike track or cruise around the venue. The food is absolutely amazing and the views spectacular.
