Going out with kids during the colder winter months or on rainy days can be a challenge. Most restaurants in and around Cape Town are super child-friendly and have an amazing outdoor play area, but only a few cater for some indoor fun. Here is a list of restaurants with an indoor play area for children. Have fun and check them out!
Cape Town Fish Market in Big Bay
Cape Town Fish Market on that side of town not only has the best Table mountain views, but also two incredible play areas for kids of all ages. There is a little toddler area with a book corner and play kitchen as well as a big play room with a soft jungle gym, a ball pit, slide and computer game. Of course, they also offer a kiddies menu and every Thursday, children under the age of 12 eat for free!

Milkwood Deli in Melkbosstrand
Milkwood Deli in Melkbosstrand is a great place to check out during rainy days as it features a fabulous indoor play area for kids of all ages. The deli is part of the Atlantic Beach Golf Estate, but it’s open to visitors (even if you’re not into the golfing business). The indoor play area features a jungle gym with a climbing wall, two slides, fireman pole as well as a smaller jungle gym for toddlers. They have a childminder on duty and you can enjoy your meal while the kids play safely.

Doodles Beachfront Restaurant in Bloubergstrand
Doodles Restaurant is a super family-friendly restaurant in Blouberg with spectacular of Table Mountain and Robben Island. While you sip your wine and beer, the kids can enjoy a fantastic indoor play area. Their revamped indoor play area is packed with fun for all ages. Older kids can dive into computer games, while the younger ones can climb, slide, swing, draw, or chill out with kid-friendly movies on their own TV. They also have a kiddies menu available.

Panarottis in Claremont
Panarottis in Claremont features a lovely indoor play area with child-minders watching over the little ones at all times and lending a helping hand when necessary. The kids will find a soft play jungle gym, air hockey table, and computer games for their entertainment. Mykonos Taverna offers an authentic Greek dining experience that will transport your taste buds straight to the Mediterranean. And the best thing: they have a much needed kiddies corner right inside the restaurant. In the lovely kid’s corner, children have lots of space to explore the toys and activities and they can choose from building blocks, drawing on a chalk board, preparing food in the play kitchen, wooden cars, and more toys.

Mike’s Kitchen in Milnerton
The restaurant has in indoor and outdoor play area, so the kids can keep themselves busy even on those rainy days and each playground is very well equipped. At the indoor area at Mike’s Kitchen, the kids will find computer games, a work station, air hockey and some machines to try their luck on. The good thing: they’ve got one of these new machines where every entry gets a prize. So the kids basically cannot loose and your money is well spent. Win win for everyone.

Skilpadvlei Wine Estate in Stellenbosch
Skilpadvlei Wine Estate in Stellenbosch not only has a fabulous outdoor play area, but also caters for kids on those cooler days with a similar amazing indoor play area. They can swing, slide, run and get lost in imaginery play during their stay and will surely enjoy the colourful play room. On top of that, Skilpadvlei also offers a fabulous kiddies tasting in case the little ones want to join in on the tasting fun.

Strolla Restaurant & Bar in Sea Point
At Strolla Restaurant & Bar, children will have the opportunity to make their own pizza as a fun activity. But there is even more entertainment as they also feature a dedicated kiddies play area right next to the main seating area of the restaurant. The Games Room has a couple of things on offer: a huge drawing table, fat sacks, a lego wall and two monitors with age appropriate video games for the older kids. So Strolla is the place to go on those cold rainy days where parents are desperately in need for inside play options.

Snoekies in Hout Bay
If you and the kids are a fan of fish dishes, then you must try Snoekies in Hout Bay. They have a large indoor play area on their upper level from where you can also enjoy amazing harbour views. The play area is eqipped with a jungle gym, slides, a climbing wall, soft building blocks, miniature play houses, a mini soccer table, play kitchen and an actual sandpit! There are many things to explore and to discover while you can enjoy your meals at the seating area right next to the playground.

Spur Steak Ranches in Cape Town
The majority of you probably visited a Spur Restaurant at least once in their lifetime and this restaurant chain doesn’t disappoint. All of them are screaming “families are welcome” and the kids will probably enjoy any location with a play canyon. So far, we have only visited Mexico Spur at Canal Walk. But we will test many more for you in the future to find the very best indoor play area at a Spur Steak Ranch in Cape Town.

Most of the Bossa Restaurant Chains are already super family friendly and feature amazing play areas for the little ones. We have already visited quite a few of them and the kids always have a great time exploring the playgrounds. Bossa Goodtime at Canal Walk has a little indoor play area which makes it the perfect go to place for those colder days.

Hennie’s in Paarl
Hennie’s Restaurant in Paarl not only features a fun outdoor play area for the kids, but also a colourful indoor game room with computer games, soft toys and more. It’s a great place for hot or rainy days and kids of all ages will find something to play with.
