Rose Picking @Chart Farm / Wynberg

During the summer months in Cape Town (starting from October until May) you can show the kids a very unique and fun activity by taking home their own beautiful bouquet of roses.

At Chart Farm, you will find a wide variety of roses all with unique appearances and names growing on about 6,000 rose bushes. It’s also the only place in the Cape Peninsula where you can select and pick your own roses. You can choose from: BaronesseGranadaFrohsinnLady LikeHarmony,  HereroKristo PienaarBoksburg FantasiaDouble DelightElinaEthel DeaneEsther GeldenhuysJanine Herholdt, and Johannesburg Sun, to mention a few.

You can go there anytime between 09:00 and 16:00 and also grab a lovely coffee at their coffee shop or shop around in the Farmstall where they stock a variety of locally farmed and produced goods. They offer seasonal fresh fruit, a selection of tantalizing jam, chutney, preserves, honey and delicious homemade fudge. When you’re done picking roses, you can also sit down at the small restaurant and enjoy some breakfast or lunch while sucking in the beautiful views of the Constantia Valley. Have a sneak-peak at their menu here: MENU

If you’re not in the mood to pick your own roses or want to take home an additional bouquet, you will also find freshly picked roses at the Farmstall. However, picking your own is obviously more fun. Secateurs and buckets are provided at the Farmstall but on busy days they might run out of it. So it is preferable to bring your own to avoid disappointment on their busy days.

Horse Riding

Chart Farm is also home to Constantia View Stables – a privately owned horse riding school for children and adults who want to learn how to ride. The lessons take place most days between 14:30 and 17:00. You can contact Anita from Constantia View Stables for additional information on the horse riding lessons: +27 (0) 82 922 2249

Our Experience

This is such a beautiful place for an early morning brunch and activity for the kids! The outside seating area provides spectacular mountain views, the food is amazing, there is plenty of shade and the kids can get themselves a bucket and stroll around through the rose fields. It’s so much fun to go on a hunt for the most beautiful roses and the reward is great: we all get to go home with a wonderful bouquet of flowers. We absolutely recommend this place and are sure you will love it!
