Route 44 is an incredible indoor and outdoor market in Stellenbosch that caters for young and old and is a fantastic spot to spend your weekends at. So make your way to the winelands on a Saturday or Sunday to grab some incredible food, enjoy live music and do some arts and craft shopping from amazing artists.
The beautifully designed venue is big enough to host quite a lot of people on a rainy day and even more folks when the sun is out. The huge and wide open space is inviting and surrounded by gorgeous vineyards and trees.
All the food stalls are housed under one roof and you can conveniently browse the location and find your favourite vendor. You can literally find anything and everything including Hot Dogs, Pizzas, Burgers, Bagels, Tacos, Steak, fresh juices, sweet treats, ice cream… This is by far not all and you can check out all of their entrepreneurs here: ENTREPRENEURS
Besides the great food, they also host local musicians every weekend to perform for the crowd. You can always check in advance who’s performing on a particular day by visiting their website: WHAT’S ON
And the best part: there is so much to do and explore for the kids that it won’t get boring! First of all, there is room for lots of free play on the lawns and the splash pool. So make sure to bring along some spare clothes or towels in case your little ones love the play in the water.
There is also a colourful train cruising around the facility taking the kids on a fun ride!
And for those colder days, they even have an indoor play area in one corner of the market with lots of things to explore. Including slides, the snake ladder game and lots of space to climb up the soft jungle gym. The entrance to the play area is R50 per child.
So even if there is no playground with the typical jungle gym outside, the kids won’t get bored as there are plenty of other things to explore at the venue.
Our Experience
We enjoyed this market a lot as it offers great vibes, lots of space for the children and a great selection of food and drinks. We can highly recommend the pizzas and crepes. Those were absolutely delicious and we sat in the shaded outside seating area watching the kids play and run around on the lawn. A bunch of children was also playing in the splash pool and you can hear quite a lot happy laughter and excited children. We were too late to ride the train as the market closes at 17:00, but we surely try this out next time.

Good day, are you guys open tomorrow?
Yes, the market is open until 9pm on a Saturday.
Hello! I would like to find out whether the indoor kid’s area and market will be open on Friday 7 April (Good Friday). Is the kid’s area only available for use if the market is on?
Hello, we also only have the information from Google and it looks like the market will be closed on Good Friday. That means the indoor play area will also be unavailable on that day. It can only be accessed through the market.
