Southern Yurts – Unique Glamping Experience 90 min From Cape Town

If you love a unique, yet family-friendly adventure not far away from the Mother City, you must check out Southern Yurts within the Diepklowe Nature Reserve. It is located at the Porcupine Hills Guest Farm in Botriver and approximately 90 minutes (100 km) away from Cape Town. This retreat blends outdoor adventure with modern comfort – making it a memorable stay for locals and visitors alike.

Accommodation Options

• The Forest View Yurt is a north-facing gem offering panoramic views of the conservancy. Guests can enjoy sunrises and sunsets from an elevated deck, relax in a private wood-fired hot tub, or lounge on a cargo hammock. The site includes a self-catering kitchen with an indoor fireplace and a bathroom with a hot shower.
• Their River Cabin is nestled in a serene forest setting beside a gentle stream. It comprises two A-frame structures connected by a covered walkway. One structure houses a fully equipped kitchen with a daybed and dining area, while the other features a spacious en-suite queen bedroom. Amenities include a private outdoor braai area, a wood-fired pizza oven, and a secluded hot tub.
• The Botanica Cabin is located near a tranquil riverine area. The cabin features a king-bedroom, bathroom with shower, fully equipped kitchen (including an indoor pizza oven), dining space, and a lounge area with a daybed and indoor fireplace. Outside, guests can utilize a large undercover braai lapa and a private wood-fired hot tub.
• Yurt Camp – Malachite and Kestrel: These separate sites offer private glamping experiences suitable for couples, families or small groups. Each site accommodates 2–4 guests in two camping yurts equipped with double mattresses and essential amenities. Both sites include a private kitchen, bathroom with hot shower, outdoor braai area, and a wood-fired hot tub. ​

Nature Reserve Activities

Guests have access to various activities within the Diepklowe Nature Reserve, including marked hiking trails, trail running, bird watching (with provided binoculars and field guides), and a farm dam equipped with a canoe and kayak. Catch-and-release fishing is also available, with equipment rental by prior arrangement. Nearby attractions, such as wine tasting, zip-lining, horse riding, and farmer’s markets, are within a 30-minute drive. ​
