The Deck at Blue Peter Restaurant: A Coastal Gem

If you’re in Cape Town and looking for a spot to grab a drink, share some food, and watch the sun melt into the Atlantic, The Deck at Blue Peter is where you want to be.

The Deck sits right on the beachfront with unbeatable views of Table Mountain across the bay and the rocky beach is just a stone throw away. You’ll find wooden benches, blue umbrellas, a big green lawn where you can sit back on your picnic blanket, and the salty sea breeze.

The menu keeps things simple but delicious. Think wood-fired pizzas, fresh seafood, good old burgers, and of course, ice-cold beers on tap. They also do breakfasts and lighter meals on Saturday and Sunday if you’re more in the mood for a lazy brunch on a weekend. Add a cocktail from the bar, and you’re pretty much set.

Good Vibes & Live Music

On weekends – especially Fridays – the atmosphere turns festive with live music and a buzzing crowd. People sprawl out on the lawn, kids run around, dogs chill under the tables, and the whole place feels like a seaside picnic with a seriously good view.

Although the restaurant doesn’t have a dedicated play area for the little ones, our kids always enjoy the outing at Blue Peter. The lawn is big enough to run around and there is a cute playground near by: Small Bay Park features a fantastic jungle gym, access to the beach and more lawn space for tiny energetic humans. It’s a short 2 minute walk from the playground to the restaurant.

Whale Season Bonus

If you visit between September and December, keep your eyes on the water. You might spot Southern Right whales playing just offshore while you’re sipping your drink. Not your average lunch view!
