This beautiful green oasis in the heart of Newlands is a must visit if you love the serenity of nature, forest walks, and a peaceful environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The tall trees provide plenty of shade in summer and the little stream is a lot of fun for visiting children and dogs who love to cool off their feet and simply enjoy a little water play.
You will discover many different indigenous plants, large wooden toads, a miniature wood train, many benches to sit down and relax as well as happy families. The Liesbeek River is reputedly the oldest urbanised river in the country, so it’s even more special to pay it a visit.
At the park entrance, you can also find a lovely playground with a huge jungle gym in case the kids want to burn off some extra energy before or after your visit.

Would love to have my daughters 8th birthday at the river garden.
How do I go about reserving seats for 15 kids?
Hi Bianca, it’s a public park, I’m not sure if you need to book a birthday party. I would assume you can just set up there as long as you clean up after yourself and don’t leave any trash behind after the party.
