Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate is more than just a wine farm—it’s an experience that blends fine wine, rich history, and a truly family-friendly atmosphere. If you are a family looking for a unique day out with the kids, this estate offers something truly special.
The Famous Runner Ducks: A Must-See Spectacle
One of the most charming and well-known features of Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate is its flock of Indian Runner Ducks. These quirky and energetic ducks are not just there for show—they play a crucial role in maintaining the estate’s vineyards by naturally controlling pests. Instead of using pesticides, the farm relies on these feathered workers to feast on snails and other insects. That way they ensure an eco-friendly approach to agriculture and completely rely on their cute little helpers.
Visitors can witness the daily duck parade at 9am and 12pm, where hundreds of these long-legged, upright-walking ducks waddle in unison and make a great show for kids and adults alike. This event has become a signature attraction at the estate and is one of the most photographed and talked-about experiences in the Cape Winelands.
Award-Winning Wines & Wine Tasting
Of course, no visit to a wine estate would be complete without sampling some exceptional wines. Vergenoegd Löw is known for its estate-grown reds and whites, which beautifully reflect the terroir of the region.
You can choose from three different wine tasting options starting from R90 per person. You can read more on the wine tasting options here: TASTINGS
A Family-Friendly Destination
Vergenoegd Löw is a fantastic destination for families, making it an ideal choice for parents who want to enjoy a relaxed wine farm visit without worrying about keeping their kids entertained. In addition to the duck parade, the estate offers spacious gardens, wine tasting experiences, and a playground with a bike track that keeps children engaged.
Take note that the play area is not in direct sight of the restaurant or wine tasting area. So younger children will have to be supervised at all times as the playground is a bit farther away.
Dining at Geuwels Restaurant
The estate offers delicious food experiences, with a strong emphasis on farm-to-table freshness. Guests can enjoy seasonal dishes crafted with locally sourced ingredients.
At Geuwels Restaurant, guests can expect delicious breakfast and lunch options including poached duck eggs, roosterkoek and small plate choices combined with top quality fruits and vegetables, fish, meat, and venison.
The restaurant operating hours are Monday to Sunday 08h00 – 10h30 (breakfast) and 12h00 – 14h30 for lunch.
