From the 8th of December 2022 to the 11th of December, you can take part in the nation’s largest lantern festival here in Cape Town. The venue has now been announced to be Maynardville Park in Wynberg. Come and watch a giant shark, the Big Five, a polar bear, dragon and many more fabulous creatures lightening up the city.
Please note that I find the the entire organisation and changing of dates and websites very fishy. So I’m not sure whether this is a scam or a legit event. Tickets are now on sale, but I recommend to be very careful and rather try to contact the organisers beforehand. We tried to contact them but to no availability. They don’t have a phone number and don’t respond to our emails nor on social media. If you hear anything or know more, please leave a comment below.
Over 50 displays are waiting for you and the entire family. They are made up of more than 2,000 intricate lanterns with over 100,000 LED lights and silk material. Come and admire them all along the 500 meter trail which leads you through the Magical Wildlife Glow.
Along the trail you will walk through a shark tunnel, come across a fairy forest, Tulip flowers, flamingo birds, dinosaur lanterns and much more. There are also family activities and amusement rides as well as food stalls. Get the real festival vibes right in town.
There will be limited admission tickets on discount if you order them before the 30th of October. The early bird ticket prices and the standard ticket rates are as follows: Please note that the venue yet has to be announced.

Where eil this event take place and is this event better organised than the dinosaur expo ? What if its loadshedding?
Hi Jewanni, we’re not the organisers of the event, we’re just writing about it as a family event. Unfortunately, I don’t know the exact dates nor the venue as the official website hasn’t published these details as of yet. I have contacted them a while ago to find out more specific information about the event, but they never replied to me. So as soon as more info becomes available, we will update it on our website for everyone to read about it.
