Windmill Beach / False Bay

This beautiful, secluded beach is nestled in the Froggy Pond area of Simon’s Town, near Cape Town and is located just south of Boulder’s Beach. It has a 200m long white sandy strip, some grass area and a big tree providing some shade on those hot summer days. Windmill beach is also fairly sheltered from the wind and its shallow waters make it a perfect spot for families with younger children.

While the kids can build sand castles along the beach or take a swim in the shallow water, there are some other activities, too! You can climb on the rocks, spot penguins if you’re lucky, go kayaking or fishing, enjoy a picnic at the beach or snorkel around in the protected marine area. The rocky reef is also a popular dive site where you can spot a wide variety of fish and other sea creatures. You can also bring along your furry friend and take them for a walk. So it really is fun for the entire family!

Just be aware that swimming is at your own risk as there are no lifeguards or shark spotters on duty at Windmill Beach. Also: Braais, alcohol or camping are not allowed.

Make sure to get there early as parking is very limited. All other facilities are rather basic, but you’ll find municipal public toilets, changing rooms, and a fresh water shower.
