When visiting South Africa, a Safari trip to see the Big 5 is almost compulsory! Get close to those beautiful wild animals and experience an unforgettable encounter with elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos and many more African wildlife. However, flying to the famous Kruger National Park near Johannesburg in the north-east is not always feasible and often requires a bit more budget to reside in one of the game lodges situated in Kruger Park itself. So a safari near Cape Town is not only convenient, but also a relatively affordable alternative.
The good news is that there are quite a few Safari options in the rest of the country. You can find game lodges and nature parks only a few hours away from the most popular destination – Cape Town. Although there are no safaris in Cape Town directly, you don’t have to drive far to arrive at one of the Big 5 safari game reserves located near the Mother City.
When you’re travelling as a family with children, a lot of things are important to consider and it can be difficult to find the perfect game lodge that suits all your needs. But we’re here to help and list the best family-friendly safaris near Cape Town. Almost all of them are home to the Big 5 and completely malaria-free! So you can enjoy your game drive without any worries which is especially beneficial to families with younger children.

Additionally, a variety of bird species, including the endangered black eagle (Aquila), can be spotted throughout the reserve.
