1. Who We Are

This website, www.capetownwithkids.com (the “Site“), is owned and operated by Digital Rockstars Media (Pty) Ltd (“we“, “us“, “our“), a company based in Cape Town, South Africa.

We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Site — including through our business Directory, reviews and comments features, and general site usage — why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have over it.

This policy is written to comply with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Where relevant to visitors outside South Africa, we also aim to align with the principles of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Information Officer In terms of POPIA, our Information Officer is: Judith Lampen, contactable at info@capetownwithkids.com

If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your personal information, please contact us at info@capetownwithkids.com.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 General site visitors

When you browse the Site, we automatically collect certain technical information, including your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and referring website, via cookies and analytics tools (see Section 5).

2.2 Newsletter subscribers

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address (and name, if provided) to send you updates, family activity ideas, and promotional content. You may unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.

2.3 Directory listings — business information

Our Directory publishes information about businesses and venues relevant to Cape Town families, including:

  • Business/venue name, category, and description
  • Contact details (phone number, email address, website)
  • Physical address and geographic location (map pin/GPS coordinates)
  • Operating hours, pricing, and images
  • Social media links

This information is collected in one of two ways:

  • Submitted directly by the business owner or their representative via our “Add Listing” form, in which case submission constitutes consent to publish this information publicly on the Directory; or
  • Compiled by our team from publicly available sources (such as the business’s own website or social media pages) for editorial and informational purposes, in the legitimate interest of providing a useful family resource to our audience.

Business owners can request that we update, correct, or remove their listing at any time by contacting us at [DIRECTORY CONTACT EMAIL]. We do not sell or share Directory business information with third parties beyond the ordinary display of the listing itself.

2.4 Reviews and comments

When you submit a review or comment on a Directory listing or blog article, we collect:

  • The content of your review/comment and any rating given
  • The name and email address you provide with the submission
  • Your IP address and browser user-agent string (used for spam and abuse detection)

Reviews and comments are displayed publicly alongside the listing or article. Please do not include personal information you don’t want made public (e.g. your child’s full name, home address, or school) in the body of a review or comment.

An anonymised hash of your email address may be checked against the Gravatar service to display a profile picture, if you use one. See Gravatar’s privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/

2.5 Registered accounts

If you register for an account (e.g. to manage a listing, save a wishlist, or leave reviews under a profile), we store the information in your user profile, which you can view, edit, or delete at any time from your account settings (except your username).

2.6 Images and location data

If you or a business owner uploads images to the Site, please be aware that images may contain embedded location data (EXIF/GPS). We recommend removing this before upload if you do not wish location data to be publicly extractable. This applies separately from the intentional location pin published as part of a Directory listing.
