Bloemendal Wine Estate / Durbanville

Dining, Playing and Biking at Bloemendal.

This Wine Estate is simply amazing for a fun family day out in Durbanville. You only have to drive about 30 minutes from Cape Town to arrive in this wonderful wine area where you can enjoy and relax with your entire family.

The estate offers a tasting room, two different restaurants (Bon Amis and Rose Garden), accommodation as well as a Bike Track/Trail Park for the more adventurous adults and kids.

Bloemendal Trail Park

The Trail Park is a mountain biking cycle track situated on the estate that provides bike hire, bike fitments and biking events for all ages and levels. Their MTB trails cater for all skill levels, starting with the YBike trail which is ideally situated so that parents can overlook kids exploring. The more advanced skill levelled riders can enjoy the world class XCO trail or the famous Lombard’s Terra for some added excitement to their rides. Runners can choose between pre-marked routes or follow their own paths on the estate for some additional miles.

You can purchase Day Permits at a cost of R60 for adults and R40 for juniors under the age of 18. A Day Run Permit is R30 per person. Check out the booking options and all other information on their special trail park website: https://www.bloemendaltrailpark.co.za/

Bon Amis Restaurant

If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere then the Bon Amis Restaurant is the perfect place to have breakfast, lunch or dinner while overlooking the massive playground right in front of the outdoor seating area. Bon Amis specialises in wood-fired pizzas and freshly made sushi, alongside their hearty seasonal fare.

The playground has a lot to offer and is fun for kids of all ages. It comprises various jungle gyms for toddlers and bigger children alike, a huge slide, play houses, swings, climbing facilities, a small petting zoo and much more. In summer, they even have a jumping castle filled with water to cool down the little ones. So make sure to pack a swimsuit and towels if your kids enjoy that kind of entertainment. On some days, you can also make your own sand art at the playground at a small additional cost.

They recently added two new features to their playground which will be loved by the little ones. They’ve added a water play area for those hot summer days as well as a trampoline. So the kids have even more options to go wild while you enjoy your meals and drinks.

Wine Tasting

At their Wine Tasting Room, you will also find a beautiful outside seating area overlooking a small play area with a jungle gym. It’s a more cozy and laid back atmosphere than at the restaurant and you’ll be served some selected food items from Bon Amis such as their pizzas. The highlight for the children is probably their kiddies pairing option where you can choose between two flavours of ice cream paired with a fruit juice and smarties to put on top of the ice cream box. The kiddies tasting is R55 (in 2024) and great fun for the little ones.

Our Experience

Most importantly: always make a booking for the restaurant. When you go there as a walk in, it’s very likely that you will be disappointed because the outdoor space is usually fully booked on weekends! To sit next to the playground on the outside area, you should make a reservation. And then? You won’t see your kids for the rest of the time because they disappear in the many adventures of the playground. Attention: In case you have dogs, you must leave them at home unfortunately as dogs are not allowed on their estate.
