Clos Malverne Restaurant / Stellenbosch

Since Nicole Marais (a Mom herself) took over the ownership of this beautiful gem in Stellenbosch, Clos Malverne Restaurant has been transformed into a family-heaven and children and parents of all ages are more than welcome to enjoy a relaxed family dining experience in beautiful surroundings.

While the restaurant offers a Bistro style menu with steak, burger, salad, beef fillet, cheese boards, wood-fired pizza, mouth watering desserts and award-winning wines, the little ones are always kept in mind. Clos Malverne not only offers a delicious a la carte menu, but also unforgettable wine pairing options for young and old. The most famous one is probably their delectable ice-cream pairing with flavours changing every six months. As of 2024, they have extended their wine pairing experiences to also include pizza, cheese and meat pairings for the grown-ups. While the parents sip on their glasses, the children can join in on the tasting fun and do their very own kiddies tasting. Unlike many other places, they will be served a mix of hearty dishes and a sweet treat.

In the kiddies pairing option, creme soda is paired with a yummy mac and cheese ball, apple juice with a chicken slider and strawberry milk with a delicious cupcake. They will absolutely love this!

The outside area also features a lovely playground with a jungle gym, a slide, swings and climbing wall. Inside, there is also a dedicated play area with a cute play kitchen, kiddies table and a selection of toys. So children can have indoor and outdoor fun while the parents can enjoy a relaxed dining experience with the kids in sight and them being perfectly entertained.

Highlight: EVERY SUNDAY, children under the age of 12 eat for free with every dining adult. How awesome!

Our Experience

We know Clos Malverne mainly from our time before we had our kids and we were amazed how much it has transformed into a family-friendly place since then. The kids were happy to find a play area outside and we were seated right next to them. We enjoyed their famous ice-cream tasting and also had the kiddies tasting for the little ones. We are always happy when the kids tasting not only consists of sweet treats, but also features some hearty options. So we were happy to find the mac and cheese ball and chicken slider on the plate! The ice-cream tasting was truly unusual with unexpected flavours that paired perfectly with the wine. It was a great experience and we surely come back for a delicious meal at the restaurant. It was also great to learn that kids eat for free every Sunday which makes this a preferred destination over the weekend!
