Dinosaur World Cape Town

Important Update (23.09.23): The Dinosaur World Festival in Wynberg, Cape Town, set to run from September 22 until October 1, has been halted by local authorities. The City of Cape Town revealed the organizers commenced the event without necessary permits, including a pending Land-Use permit for Maynardville Park. City spokesperson, Luthando Tyhalibongo, highlighted safety concerns like the absence of medical staff and the presence of children in potentially unsafe conditions. The organizer was fined, and while the City supports events, they emphasized the importance of safety and legal compliance, noting the risks of illegal events.

From September 22 until October 01, 2023, you and the kids can visit Dinosaur World at Maynardville Park/Wynberg in Cape Town. Get immersed in a world-class outdoor dinosaur exhibition featuring life-size, robotic, animatronic dinosaurs. You can expect a mesmerising dinosaur street theatre, dino rides, amusement rides, games, and dinosaur-themed activities for the whole family.

There are various different ticket types, distinguishing between off-peak and peak-times and normal tickets or full experience tickets. If you choose normal tickets, you will be able to add paid activities sold at the ticket booth and they cost R30 per person per activity. Entry ticket prices vary depending on the day of your visit. Adult admission ranges from R80 – R120 per person. Children admission ranges from R50 to R80. You can buy tickets here: TICKETS

Visitors have the liberty to choose which sections of the exhibition they want to see depending on their preferences and their tickets will be valid for the whole day excluding the rides and activities. More entertainment will be available including markets, music DJs, food stalls and more.

Our Experience

We went to the event at the 11am spot and when we arrived we already saw a long queue outside the venue. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait for too long and could enter the place after a few minutes. The facilities are relatively small and so it was very crowded and busy with kids running around and parents trying to catch up with them. The dinosaurs are really cute and squishy and especially smaller kids are probably quite impressed by the roaring and moving dinosaurs.

As a parent, it’s rather hectic. There is a lot of noise, many people and long queues at the different activities. If you didn’t book the “All Inclusive Ticket”, you will have to pay extra for almost everything. The little playground, the dino train, dino rides and dino eggs are not for free and each activity costs an additional R30 per person. So it can become very expensive very quickly.

Overall, the kids were happy, but after an hour at the venue we’ve seen it all and were ready to go home again.

Tipp: Check your spam folder once you bought the tickets. All their emails ended up in my spam folder, but they also mention that on the website in case you’re wondering about the whereabouts of your tickets!

we are not the organisers of this event, so we don’t have any additional information. But I assume that the exhibit is no longer ongoing as you cannot make any bookings online anymore.

    • Hello Nikita, I’m not entirely sure. We are not associated with the event, so we cannot provide any details. However, as far as I understand it, you will need to buy tickets for the other areas on top of the common area tickets. I’m sure you can also do that on the day of your visit. But I don’t think any attractions are included in the common area ticket.
