Dunstone Country Estate / Wellington

If you don’t mind driving a bit on the weekend, then we can highly recommend the Stone Kitchen at the Dunstone Country Estate in Wellington. It’s about a 90 minute drive from Cape Town, but 100% worth it. Dunstone normally offers luxury accommodation, fine wine and a perfect weekend get-away location. But their Stone Kitchen Bistro is inviting families to a truly rural and homely dining experience. While the parents can overlook the fantastic mountain scenery, kids can make use of their amazing indoor and outdoor play area.

The family-run bistro offers classic home-style dishes to enjoy with our selection of cellar wines. A selection of hearty meals include; homemade burgers, quiches, ribs and steak. Lighter dishes are also available such as sandwiches, wraps and vineyard platters to share between friends. Of course, they offer a kiddies menu too!

The activities at the play area inside include a large soft play area with a Lego table, a climbing wall, board games, puzzles, books and mini-kitchen. Outside, kids can go wild on the jungle gym, play mini golf or mini soccer, swings, slides and more. They also have a few farm animals that hang out most days – the porky pigs and the cheeky goats.

Thanks to the big trees, most of the outside space is nicely shaded and there is also a big picnic-style lawn where you can hang out and watch the children play along. They are also dog friendly – so you can bring your furry friends along to hang with you, too!

Birthday Parties

You can also book the venue for birthday parties. The time slots for the party play zone are Monday to Sunday from 10:00 – 12:30 or 13:00 – 15:30. You can choose between various food packages for the little ones and adults starting at R85 per head in the Mini Stone Package. Here’s what’s included in all party packages: A party table in the play zone area with chairs and tables for up to 20 kiddies or picnic benches and blankets on the shaded lawn area.

Our Experience

This is such a beautiful space where you can truly enjoy a glass of wine or two in the most amazing scenery and have a delicious meal under a guava tree. The entertainment area for the kids is simply amazing and they surely find something that they enjoy. This is especially great for families with smaller kids as you find so much more than just the usual jungle gym… A big recommendation to try it out although you have to drive a little bit longer.
