Knus Karoo Kombuis / Paarl

We’ve heard lots of great things about the Knus Karoo Kombuis and were very excited to visit them during our camping trip to Paarl. Knus Karoo Kombuis is a delightful family-friendly restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, authentic menu options, beautiful gardens and a strong focus on creating memorable dining experiences for families.

The restaurant’s rustic decor and charming interior transport you to the heart of the Karoo, making it an ideal setting for a relaxed family meal. Whether you’re seated indoors or in the tranquil outdoor area, you’ll find a comfortable and inviting space for both parents and children. The outside garden area with its big old trees provides plenty of shade on those hot summer days and is the perfect spot to watch the little ones play on the generous playground and the water station. The well-equipped play area features slides, swings, a wooden tractor and other play equipment. It’s a safe and entertaining space for kids to explore.

The water play section is a highlight on hot days and keeps to tiny feet cool and the kids can splash around. So to maximise the fun for the children, bring along some clothes to change in case they get wet or they go wild on the bike trail track outside the restaurant.

They also have a lovely little shop inside where you can shop around for some deli items and sweet treats for the kids or even bring along some small gifts for family and friends. It all looks so beautiful and you can literally feel the love for detail.

The Menu

The menu at Knus Karoo Kombuis showcases the rich flavours of South African cuisine with a focus on Karoo-inspired dishes. Families can expect a diverse array of options, from hearty meat dishes to some vegetarian choices. Some of the highlights include: Roosterkoek with all sorts of ingredients such as Biltong, Lamb or pork. Burgers, Quiche and Wraps as well as delicious pancakes are also part of their menu. They also feature a kiddies menu for the little ones.

Our Experience

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at this place and can highly recommend it to families visiting Paarl! The restaurant and beautiful garden space are perfect to relax and unwind and the kids can enjoy a huge playground and water play area. The food was delicious and something special compared to other places. So a real South African dining experience and we all loved it a lot!
