If you’re in Claremont and looking for an authentic taste of Greece, Mykonos Taverna is the place to go. With its mouthwatering menu, charming ambiance, and welcoming staff, this family-owned restaurant has earned its reputation as a top destination for Greek cuisine enthusiasts. So, whether you’re craving a hearty moussaka, a sizzling souvlaki, or a sweet slice of baklava, make your way to Mykonos Taverna and embark on a culinary journey to the beautiful Greek islands.
Mykonos Taverna offers an authentic Greek dining experience that will transport your taste buds straight to the Mediterranean. And the best thing: they have a much needed kiddies corner right inside the restaurant which makes it the perfect destination for those colder Cape Town days. But of course, you gonna enjoy the cuisine just as much during summer time and I forgot how much I actually love Greek food.
The heart and soul of any restaurant lie in its menu, and Mykonos Taverna does not disappoint. The extensive menu offers a wide variety of Greek dishes, prepared with the freshest ingredients and traditional recipes that have been passed down through generations. Here are some of the must-try items on their menu:
- Moussaka: A classic Greek dish, moussaka consists of layers of eggplant, minced meat, and béchamel sauce. Mykonos Taverna’s version is a delight for the senses.
- Souvlaki: These skewered and grilled pieces of marinated meat, typically served with pita bread and tzatziki sauce, are a fan favorite at Mykonos Taverna. Whether you choose chicken, lamb, or pork, the flavors are sure to impress.
- Spanakopita: This savory pastry filled with spinach and feta cheese is a delightful appetizer or side dish that showcases the simplicity and deliciousness of Greek cuisine.
- Greek Salad: A staple in Greek dining, the Greek salad at Mykonos Taverna is a refreshing blend of tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, onions, and feta cheese, all drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with oregano.
- Baklava: No Greek meal is complete without a sweet ending, and Mykonos Taverna’s baklava is a heavenly treat. Layers of flaky pastry, chopped nuts, and sweet syrup create a dessert that’s both rich and satisfying.

They do have a separate kiddies menu as well with the classic chicken strips and chips, chicken kebap, calamari and even a Mini Mezze platter. So cute.
The restaurant also hosts special events and themed nights, such as Greek music evenings and traditional dance performances, providing an opportunity to immerse yourself in Greek culture while savouring your meal.
The Kids Corner
The best part for families is the lovely kids corner inside the restaurant. The children have lots of space to explore the toys and activities and they can choose from building blocks, drawing on a chalk board, preparing food in the play kitchen, wooden cars, and more toys. It’s a really cute corner especially for younger children and you can always keep an eye on them while enjoying your drinks and food.
I’m so happy we discovered this place as I’m absolutely in love with Greek food and it’s so hard to find a restaurant in town with an indoor play area. So this is on our save list for colder days and our kids absolutely enjoyed playing there.
