Neethlingshof Wine Estate / Stellenbosch

The story of Neethlingshof traces back to 1692 when it was granted as a farm to German immigrant Willem Barend Lubbe. Named after the first owner’s nephew, Johannes Neethling, the estate has witnessed centuries of winemaking tradition and innovation. Today, Neethlingshof preserves its historic charm through its Cape Dutch architecture, with the iconic manor house and estate buildings serving as a testament to its rich past.

With the long history of the estate also comes the knowledge of producing outstanding wines which you can taste 7 days a week in their tasting room.

Wine Tastings

If you arrive at Neethlingshof, you’ll be greeted by an inviting tasting room with an indoor and outdoor seating area. You can sit down and relax while choosing your preferred tasting option. While they do offer single wine tasting options, you could also pair your wine with complimentary food such as savoury treats or chocolate.

The highlight for the kids: they also offer a kiddies tasting option where the children will be served three different juices paired with chicken skewers, a mini burger and cupcake. The children will absolutely love to join in on the tasting fun! At the table, they will also receive crayons and drawing paper to keep them busy during the tasting of the grown ups.

Behind the tasting room, the children will also find a small playground where they can entertain themselves. As the play area is not in sight of the seating area, this is more suitable for older children who can play on their own. Younger children will have to be accompanied by their parents.

Our Experience

We visited them for a quick wine tasting and were pleasantly surprised by the kiddies option. Our kids loved it and were happy to also receive special attention and tools to keep them busy at the table. The playground was a but further away, so one of us always had to walk with them as they didn’t want to play on their own. This was a small downside, but the rest of the time the children were running around and playing on the lawn in front of the Dutch house. It was a great tasting experience and it’s certainly worth a visit.
