Spier Wine Farm is the perfect destination for families looking to enjoy a day out together. The estate offers various activities to keep children and grown-ups entertained and engaged.

The Elemental Garden

Kids can immerse themselves in a one-of-a-kind adventure at Spier’s Elemental Play Garden. The space is divided into four sections—each representing one of the fundamental elements (water, air, fire, and earth). It is an interactive space designed to spark curiosity and exploration. A winding water feature runs through the garden, symbolising the Fibonacci Sequence, adding a touch of nature-inspired mathematics to the experience.

Young explorers can crawl through a tunnel, marvel at a wind sculpture, and test their balance on a swing bridge. Designed by landscape experts Ed Brooks and local architect Danielle Croly, the garden blends seamlessly with its surroundings, featuring mostly indigenous plants to create a natural and engaging play space.

With its rich history, award-winning wines, family-friendly activities, art and culture, farm-to-table dining, and many kid-friendly activities, it is one of our favourite Wine Farms in Stellenbosch and a must-visit whenever we welcome guests from overseas.

There is so much to explore that you can easily spend an entire day at this laid-back estate. We often go there for a relaxed lunch at Vada’s or simply grab something from the Picnickery and sit down at the lawn while the kids run around. They love to explore the Elemental Garden and cool off at the lovely water feature. So make sure to bring along bathing suits and a towel if your kids enjoy water play – just to be on the safe side.

The huge tree swing is also a great hit and doesn’t get boring for the kids. There is also ice cream, snacks, picnics, bird nests to climb, places to hide, and things to discover…It’s a true gem for families and we can highly recommend it.
