The Scone Shack / Cape Point

When you are visiting the Scone Shack, secretly nestled in the slopes of Cape Point and home to Lalaphanzi Farm, it’s like entering a new world. A simple, yet colourful and joyful world where people live in peace with the animals, where nature is included in the daily living and where simplicity is key to success.

The Scone Shack is not a restaurant per se, it’s more of a stop over for those with a sweet tooth who love original flavours, all natural ingredients and a rustic way of doing things. As the name suggests, you will be served delicious wood-fired Scones that are baked during the day and when needed. So they are absolutely fresh and cater also to vegans and people who prefer a gluten-free option.

Together with your scones, you can enjoy homemade jams as well. They are prepared in a potjie on the fire using seasonal fruit and as little sugar as possible. Some of the jam flavours are apple and cinnamon, pawpaw, pineapple and ginger, pear and star anise. There are also a few drinks on the menu including milkshakes, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, freshly made juice and ice tea or chai latte. The other deserts include Brandy Pudding, Carrot Cake, vegan chocolate cake and Pecan Pie. All desserts will cost you R70.

The Shack itself is made from re-purposed old windows which gives the places an airy look and feel and farm animals are just as welcome inside as the guests. The space is tiny, so the shack hosts a small kitchen where all the magic is happening and a few tables and benches. Outside, you will find more seating options in a little tea garden where the chickens, friendly pigs and farm dogs are all at your feet making you feel welcome and home.

The huge succulent garden is absolutely beautiful and when you love plants as much as we do, you surely take a few new plants home with you. We couldn’t resist the temptation.

The kids will absolutely love it as there are so many things to explore and to discover. The pigs love a good belly rub, the chickens are waiting for some crumbs to fall down and the little nursery is just so much fun to explore as well.

You can also purchase the jams along with freshly laid eggs from the shack, but make sure to bring along some cash as there are no card facilities at the Shack! Dogs are also not allowed on the farm!

Our Experience

This is a magical place and it truly feels like entering another peaceful world. The farm animals are wondering around freely, everything is laid back, there is beautiful nature surrounding the place and you can just have a relaxed time out with the family.

The scones and cakes are simply amazing. You just need to fight for your food since the chickens and hungry ducks will soon arrive at your table and try to steel one or two things. In our case, the chicken jumped on the table and ate half of the chocolate cake. The kids loved it 🙂

We forgot to bring along cash though and they don’t have any card facilities. So luckily, we were able to do an EFT instead. To avoid any disappointment make sure to have enough cash in your pockets!
