The Thirsty Scarecrow / Stellenbosch

If you are looking for a fun place for the entire family in Stellenbosch, try the Thirsty Scarecrow. You literally cannot miss it as it is the funkiest, most colourful and extraordinary place to be with lots of things to explore and try out.

This is a magical spot especially for children as they will find something fun in every corner. You will be greeted by a grumpy old man and his firearm, but no need to be scared. He’s just the bouncer for the restaurant and usually let’s in anyone who’s friendly.

Kelly’s Candy Store

Right behind the entrance, you can find a cute candy shop with all sorts of sweets, toys and gifts for the little ones. It will be difficult to direct them to the restaurant without taking a little peak at the candy shop first. You can fill up your own bags and mix and match the candies as your taste buds dictate. Just be careful: the more you load into your bag, the more expensive it will get!

The Farmer’s Kitchen

The restaurant is huge with lots of seating space inside and outside on the deck. You can overlook the area and admire the funky art work that is all over the place. The menu offers a lot of different choices but what really stands out is the massive drinks menu with all sorts of beers, cocktails, mocktails and interesting combinations. One of their highlights is the choice of various Candy Cocktails – but this is for over 18 year olds of course!

The children will be spoilt with Slushies, milkshakes and their kiddies menu. They also have quite a few vegetarian options so that truly everybody should find something suitable.

The best part for the kiddies is probably the wonderful playground right at the bottom of the deck. It is huge and features all the fun things a child can dream of. They will find a massive high slide, various swings in all shapes and colours, a trampoline, rocking horses and even a small indoor facility with a soft jungle gym and computer games.

So it’s literally fun for all age groups and a great entertainment restaurant. Dogs are welcome too!

Our Experience

It is as much fun on the inside as it looks from the outside. Children’s eyes will sparkle when they walk into this amazing restaurant with an attached candy shop, toy machines and a fantastic playground right next to the seating area. The kiddos can go wild on a huge slide, trampoline, swings and they even got a small indoor area for cooler days. It’s really lovely as you can watch the children play from where you are sitting and enjoy your meal and drink. They have fun candy cocktails for the grown-ups and a kiddies selection as well. It’s a great experience from start to finish.
