Toeka Domaine Brahms / Paarl

Step back in time with a visit to the Toeka Museum and Restaurant, where nostalgia awaits at every turn. Explore an array of antique collections, vintage furniture, classic motor vehicles, historic tractors, beloved household brand names, and a treasure trove of nostalgic items that are carefully placed around the venue. There is so much to see and experience, that it won’t get boring and the kids can explore an era long before their time.

As soon as you arrive at the venue, you’ll be greeted by old cars lined up in a row, vintage tractors and a huge red bus which is becoming the centre piece of the generous play area.

The Playground

The playground is a secure fenced area where the little ones can explore miniature houses, swings, slides, jungle gyms and much more. The eye catcher is the brand new jumping pillow! It guarantees major fun and is the only jumping pillow in the Boland. To use it, they charge a small cover cost of R25 per person, but it’s definitely worth it.

There is also an old English Red Bus on the site which can be climbed so that you get a good overview of the area. You can even take a seat at the top and enjoy the sun while the little ones are playing downstairs.

The Tractor & Vehicle Museum

When you move on, you will come across an entire hall full of tractors, vintage cars, model cars and relics from a very long time ago. If you are a fan of old fashioned cars and vintage items, you can easily spend your entire day at Toeka Domaine Brahms. The kids will be fascinated by all the things to look at and the entrance is completely FREE.

Toeka Stoor & Coffee Shop & Restaurant

The shop and coffee shop is another highlight of the venue as it is filled with many more old and beautiful things. You can expect old working machines, wedding dresses, and collections of irons, porcelain sewing machines, enamelware and much more. They probably also keep the largest collection of railway lamps that you can find in a special railway corner full of old station and steam engine stuff.

Besides the antiques, they also sell porcelain items, trinkets, sweet treats and quite a few local products. So you surely find something that you would like to take home as a sweet souvenir from this unique place.

There is also a little indoor play area for the children where they can ride a bike, play with toys or hop on a swing.

At the restaurant, they serve delicious breakfast and lunch options as well as a dedicated kiddies menu. You’ll find burgers, wraps, jaffles and more. You can take a look at their menu options here: MENU

At the moment, the menu is only available in Afrikaans, but they will add an English version very soon to cater for their international/non-Afrikaans visitors.

Our Experience

You can truly discover something interesting in literally every corner of this venue as it is filled with so many vintage items that you can barely keep up. The kids were most excited about the playground with the huge red bus and the brand-new jumping pillow. They had massive fun exploring everything in the play area and gave it a 10 out of 10 rating almost immediately. We then moved on to the tractor museum which also keeps an entire range of vintage cars, model cars and other relics from previous times. Especially our son was absolutely delighted about the motor vehicles that look so much different to our cars today. You are not allowed to touch them or climb in which was slightly disappointing for him, but he enjoyed looking at them just as much!

The next highlight is the restaurant which is also full of old items. We sat down at the outside seating area next to the bird cage and vintage scales where we enjoyed coffee, ice cream for the kids and a delicious cheese cake. All items on the menu are very affordable and the waiter was super friendly in helping us to translate the menu as it is currently only available in Afrikaans.

There was also a cute farm dog who was following us around to the delight of the children and our overall experience was really great. It is a very special and unique place which we haven’t seen anywhere else in Cape Town so far.
