Zorgvliet Wine Estate / Stellenbosch

Nestled in the heart of the picturesque Stellenbosch wine region, Zorgvliet Wine Estate is a hidden gem that offers a delightful blend of fine wines, breathtaking landscapes, and exceptional dining experiences. With its rich history dating back to the 17th century, this estate has been producing world-class wines and providing visitors with a taste of elegance. The Estate itself is huge and separated into different sections.

At the very top (about 800m into the Estate), you’ll find the De Herenhuis 1692 Restaurant. A bit further down (400m into the Estate), you’ll find the more casual dining spot De Vliet Country Bistro and picnic area. This is our preferred family spot as it boasts a huge playground, green lawns and a water play feature. The Banghoek Lounge Restaurant is right behind the entrance and the very first dining option you’ll see. But let’s explore all of them in more detail.

De Herenhuis 1692 Restaurant

This dining venue is situated within a charming old manor house that dates back to 1692, adding to its distinctive and welcoming ambiance. With its rustic yet elegant interior, it radiates an enduring beauty that perfectly harmonizes with the breathtaking surroundings.

One of its most noteworthy features is its compact seasonal menu. This approach allows the skilled chef, Simone, to focus on creating culinary masterpieces exclusively using the freshest and highest-quality ingredients available. Each dish is meticulously crafted and presented as a delightful fusion of flavors and textures that will tantalize your taste buds. The cuisine can be described as rustic with an elegant twist, offering a delightful assortment of dishes inspired by both local and international flavors, ensuring a diverse range of choices to cater to various palates. De Vliet Country Bistro & Picnics

When we visited Zorgvliet Estate, we spent our time at the Vliet Country Bistro which not only features a cute little shop, but also an amazing playground and water play area for the little ones. The play area consists of a huge jungle gym with slides, monkey bars, swings and a lovely shaded sandpit. They also have a water feature for those super hot summer days to cool off and dry on the beautiful green lawn that is surrounding the bistro.

It provides a family-friendly atmosphere and you can expect a great offering on the menu whether it’s a hearty steak or a refreshing salad, De Vliet has an array of options to satisfy your appetite. They also serve delicious ice cream from the shop which will make the kids very happy.

Our Experience

We visited the Estate on a very hot day and were delighted to find the water play area right next to the Bistro. The kids enjoyed the generous playground and we all had a lovely lunch with exceptionally good wine. We can highly recommend their Rose Wine and the food was delicious. When we finished our meals, we simply moved on to one of the picnic spots on the lawn and stayed for a relaxed afternoon. If you want to plan ahead, bring along some bathing suits for the kids in case they wanna get wet.
